Working as a cleaning woman for upper-class families, Veera Drake has a secret life devoted to helping hapless women induce miscarriages of unwanted pregnancies--something that was illegal in the 50s England. However she is finally caught and prosecuted, but in mitigation for her selfless work her sentence is commuted.
Won two BAFTA award for Best Actress [Imalda Staunton] and Best Costume Design. Also won 3 Oscar nominations.
